The average app loses 77% of its users within the first 3 days after the install. This makes the app on-boarding step a crucial part of the user journey. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
The on-boarding process is a perfect place to show the product's key features and its value. Well-designed on-boarding experience increases the likelihood of users’ returning to the app.
PROTOTYPE
I designed an on-boarding screen for the Byju’s the learning app. I used an animated storyboard to list important features and top user benefits.
Three key messages were to be delivered:
- Byju’s has the best teachers in India
- Byju’s provides personalised learning
- The student gets a plethora of resources and tools to learn their lessons
I designed three screens for each of the messages and used animation to provide progressive transitions instead of abrupt screen flips. By using a combination of text and imagery, I was able to craft a compelling on-boarding flow.
